There is now a Calendaring and Scheduling Consortium, formed by seven vendors, six universities, two open source foundations and a research facility.
The organization, which expects to be around for three-five years, is focused on the interoperable exchange of calendaring and scheduling information between dissimilar programs, platforms and technologies.
It's picking up work from the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and says that currently standards-based systems from different vendors don't necessarily work together.
Founders include Oracle, Yahoo, Novell, Symbian, the Open Source Application Foundation, the Mozilla Foundation, Jet Propulsion Lab, Duke, Stanford and MIT.
